GB NNSS Local Action Group Workshop

Our Project Manager Callum recently attended and presented on our work at the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat Local Action Group workshop near Shrewsbury.  This annual event brings together groups working locally to manage and control invasive non-native species to share experience, learn from each other and discuss how things in the world of invasive non-native species management could be made better.  Money (or lack of it!) normally features prominently in discussions - beyond that these are really good events bringing together enthusiastic and committed people from invasive species projects across the country working at all sort of scales and with all sorts of levels of resources to support their work.

We were the only representative from Scotland attending this time but we were interested to hear from projects working on the Wye, Leicestershire, Exmoor, the Lake District, Teeside and Yorkshire; of progress on the Non-Native Species Inspectorate; on a new INNS Mapper App; on communications work from British Canoeing and the Angling Trust; and on GB biocontrol initiatives from CABI.  It was great to meet everyone, share what we do and maybe steal a few ideas to bring home to the next phase of our work in Scotland.

Many thanks to all the team at the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat for inviting us to come along and take part. Callum even had an extra night to sample the delights of Shrewsbury thanks to a train strike leaving him stranded a long way from home!
