In the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative the health, safety and welfare of our volunteers, staff and wider public is our top priority and we follow the latest Scottish Government and NHS advice as to what we should and should not be doing as part of the collective effort to manage the containment of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Outdoor conservation work
Plant control project
Our outdoor conservation work to control invasive plants has recommenced and we are welcoming volunteers to work alongside our project officers to help undertake this work. All activities are operating in a Covid secure way and in accordance with current guidance.
Mink control project
We are able to accept new volunteers to the mink control project, although please note - this does still require a face to face meeting to provide training and set up of equipment. Covid protocols are in place to ensure everyone’s safety.
Staying safe
You should only volunteer if you can carry out your volunteering at no additional risk to yourself or others. If you have any symptoms of coronavirus you should stay at home and follow NHS advice.
There is no obligation for you to continue to volunteer at this time. Your own safety and welfare must be your first consideration and we respect that some people will wish to, or have to, suspend their volunteering activity with us. That is absolutely fine.
We ask all volunteers to keep abreast of any changes in the Scottish Government coronavirus advice and ensure you comply with restrictions in your local authority area. Latest guidance can be found on the Scottish Government website.
Group activities, events and outreach work
We are happy to support groups, schools and other organisations by delivering outdoor activities (subject to local circumstances) or presentations via video conferencing.
Please contact us to discuss this further.
Keeping up to date
Should the Scottish Government reintroduce further restrictions, we will review our position and update our activities accordingly.
