Scottish Invasive Species Initiative shortlisted for nature conservation award

Exciting news!

The Scottish Invasive Species Initiative has been shortlisted in the 2023 CIEEM awards which celebrate achievements in ecology and environmental management in the UK and Ireland.

We are one of three projects shortlisted in the "Best Practice Large-Scale Nature Conservation" category for our work tackling invasive non-native species in northern Scotland. This category recognises the successes of large-scale projects working to enhance biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and sustainability to the benefit of current and future generations.

The Scottish Invasive Species Initiative Initiative works with project partners, volunteers and communities to tackle invasive plants and American mink along river catchments on a landscape scale - covering over a third of mainland Scotland.

Project Manager Callum Sinclair said:

"Everyone at the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative is delighted to hear that we've been shortlisted for this award and for the recognition this gives to our wonderful team, dedicated partners and fantastic volunteers. We are working hard to conserve our environment in northern Scotland by tackling the problems caused by invasive non-native species, promoting biosecurity actions and delivering education and outreach activities and are pleased to see the value of our collective efforts being recognised in this way."

We have a little while longer to wait until the winner is announced - the award ceremony is due to take place in Birmingham on the 28th June. Stay tuned and fingers crossed!

The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) runs the award scheme which recognises successes of projects, businesses and individuals contributing to the protection of our natural environment. A full list of 2023 CIEEM award finalists can be found here.
