Woolly Warriors on STV News

News of our woolly warriors is travelling far and wide as they spent their fifth season on site tackling highly invasive and toxic giant hogweed plants. Haley Bouma from STV News recently visited our trial site on the River Deveron to speak with Karen Muller and find out more about the famous flock.

Haley Bouma interviewing Karen Muller

During Invasive Species Week and at the height of hogweed season, Haley Bouma from STV News met with Project Officer Karen Muller at our giant hogweed sheep grazing trial site on the River Deveron in Aberdeenshire. Haley spoke with Karen about the issues caused by giant hogweed and how sheep can be part of the solution.

Giant hogweed is normally tackled through pesticide application but sheep grazing provides an alternative control method. Through a consistent grazing pressure, the sheep deplete the energy of the plant and gradually reduce the infestation. It is a long term strategy - as is any method to tackle giant hogweed - but it provides an excellent alternative for land managers to tackle the problem. Find out more from Karen and Haley below.
